Things I love: letter writing with a (re)purpose

There was a point in my life when I really liked going to the mail box. When I was a kid, I could sift through its contents and pull out only what interested me (that toy catalog that came (unrequested) every year from Kids R Us or the letter from my grandmother). In college (and because I didn’t have a credit card) the only mail that I received was mail I wanted- a package from my parents or a notice about some event on campus. All that changed when I became an “adult.” Now, going to the mailbox is remarkably anticlimactic and I can safely say, with a high degree of certainty, that my mail will contain nothing that I want (bills fall into this category, although I do actually deal with them). Occasionally there will be an invitation to a friend’s baby shower or a card for [fill in the blank holiday], but more often than not (I estimate 97% of the time) my mail is filled with credit card offers (last Saturday I received 5; three of which were from a company whose card I already have) and fliers for things that I have no need for and no interest in purchasing.
I know that I am not alone in these feelings. How many of you love to open the mailbox hoping to see something personal, something worth getting your attention- something handwritten! When it does happen, isn’t it wonderful? Doesn’t it make you just a little giddy? Just a little? One year (who can remember which one) my New Year’s resolution was to send at least one handwritten letter every month {I’ll give you one guess how well that turned out}. Okay, okay. Stop guessing. I’ll just tell you- not well. That’s why, when I came this calendar from Linda & Harriett I saw a chance to finally redeem myself…X number of years later.

I love the concept of this: enjoy a beautiful calendar page for 30 (on average) days, then snip off the bottom and send a lovely handwritten note to an unsuspecting friend. Voila!
